We are thrilled to announce that Charley Morgan and the Tampa Bay Hospice Cup are this year’s winners of the Association of Fundraising Professionals, Florida Suncoast Chapter’s Spirit of Philanthropy award.
This prestigious award is presented to an individual, group of individuals, or a family who has recognized a charitable need and developed a unique approach to advancing philanthropy in the community. The award recipient is someone who exemplifies the spirit of giving above and beyond. And, this description accurately describes the dedicated group of volunteers that put together this unique event.
Among the many black-tie fundraisers, charity runs and golf tournaments, Davis Island Yacht Club and the Tampa Bay Hospice Cup has found a unique way to make a difference in the lives of hospice patients and families in our area. By raising sails and funds, this group of dedicated volunteers is impacting hospice care on both sides of the Bay.
It takes 200+ volunteers a year and many hours of planning to create a regatta of this caliber and over the past three years, the Tampa Bay Hospice Cup donated more than $130,000 to benefit patients and families of LifePath Hospice and Suncoast Hospice. Through the support of the Tampa Bay Hospice Cup, LifePath Hospice and Suncoast Hospice are impacting lives in our community in a profound way:
- The uninsured man receives the quality end-of-life care every human being deserves.
- The grieving widow attends a grief support group and becomes a hospice volunteer where she finds healing.
- The veteran struggling with guilt receives regular visits from the chaplain and after forgiving himself finds peace.
- The young boy who lost his grandmother attends a bereavement camp where he meets other children who lost loved ones, and now he doesn’t feel so alone.
There are many more patients and families just like these who need support and we are extremely grateful for this partnership with the Tampa Bay Hospice Cup.
