November 2022

Our Sept/Oct event to SPYC was canceled due to Hurricane Ian. We all continue to donate things that may help those in SW Florida impacted by the Hurricane. Humans and our Fur Friends alike, all need our help.

Nov 11-13, 2022, we will be visiting Bradenton and Twin Dolphin Marina. There is a lot to do being right downtown and Twin Dolphin has a great heated pool. Many restaurants with live music are within a few blocks. We will have a potluck dinner Saturday evening at Twin Dolphin! Kate and Terry Kerr will be hosting this event. Lots of docktails and sailing stories to be told!

Cruising Tips! Following are books we keep on board and find excellent value in.

Chapman Piloting & Seamanship, 69TH Edition

Terrific book with loads of information you will find yourself in need of at some point. It has 1500 or so color photos, charts, drawings/illustrations to help. It covers navigation, safety equipment, anchoring and weighing anchor, operation of gas, diesel, inboard, outboard, or sterndrive, how to use radar and radio communications, sharing the water with other boats, rights, handling lines and making them fast, reading weather and more.

Don Casey's Complete Illustrated Sailboat Maintenance Manual

Again, lots of pictures to help you understand. I like this feature myself and have learned a great deal from his books. This covers almost any repair or maintenance issue on sailboat including diesel engine repair, sail repairs at sea, fiberglass repairs, an extensive list from bow to stern.

Don Casey’s This Old Boat, Second Edition: Completely Revised and Expanded

For those with older sailboats. How to keep your boat in tip-top shape on a budget! Great for those who don’t want to go overboard when your insurance hull value is less. Again, I have learned a great deal from this book, and it has saved us money on updates and repairs.

Logbooks-Cruising and Maintenance

I suggest books with waterproof zipper pockets for maintenance records and receipts.
