General Information About the Racing Area:

Average Wind Direction during December: North to East
Average Wind Speed: 8–13 Knots
Average Water Depth: 10 Feet
Tides: Rise or Fall Up to 2.5 Feet or 0.75 Meters

December brings steady sailing conditions in Tampa Bay. Winds are typically from the north, providing consistent racing, though shifts from the east are also common. The water is generally flat in north, east, or west breezes, with minimal wave build-up. Southerly winds are uncommon, but when they occur, they can generate larger wave heights. Cold fronts are more likely in December than in November, occasionally producing stronger and gustier winds, which add an extra tactical element to racing.
